Dr. Karen A. McClintock

Are you interested in creating a healthy congregation? This webpage will introduce you to resources for healthy congregations in the areas of communication, harassment and abuse prevention, and the healing of congregational secrets and shame.

NEW RELEASE:

Healthy Disclosure: Solving Communication Quandaries in Congregations

Karen A. McClintock, Clinical Psychologist and Congregational Consultant has co-authored along with Kibbie Ruth (www.kyros.org) a new book on congregational health.

This book helps clergy and lay leaders think through and develop policies for confidentiality, financial information, and communications between staff and congregants. Readers will reduce the risk of running into hurtful situations and possible litigation.

"...the book should be put in a congregation's first aid kit for removal and use if and when a bad thing happens to good people. When bad stuff happens this will be one of the most valuable resources the leadership of a congregation can have." Speed B. Leas

Reading the book before something bad happens will prevent mis-steps as well. New workshops have been developed to bring this information to your congregation, judicatory staff, and clergy leaders. Along with previous publications, "Preventing Sexual Abuse in Congregations" and "Sexual Shame: An Urgent Call to Healing", this resource is a must read for congregational leaders.

Why read this book?

  • Because you are tired of negative criticism in your congregation
  • Because you need to confront someone who spreads rumors
  • You want to know what to say about a staff dismissal
  • You can't decide if the pastor has a "right" to know the giving records
  • Because the prayer chain has turned into gossip
  • In order to stop "anonymous" feedback
  • To learn when a pastoral confession must be shared, with whom and why
